McKeel, Jenkins Prevail in County Cross Country

LAKELAND | The McKeel Academy boys and George Jenkins girls won the Polk County Cross Country Championships on a cool, windy Saturday morning before 300 fans at Jenkins' Veterans Stadium.
It was the first county title for McKeel Academy, which totaled 35 points to finish three points less than George Jenkins and snap 13 consecutive county championships won by the Eagles.
Even though Jenkins finished second in team points, it did finish with a better average time (17:42.81) than the Wildcats (17:42.98).
Junior Landon Schneider led the way for the Eagles, recording the best time of the day (16: 52.49) to win his first individual county championship.
